Nothing to remember
No cron jobs, no backup scripts. Databases you create later are picked up on their own and backed up within a minute. Each one is kept for 14 days by default.
Install it on the server that runs Postgres
curl -fsSL https://pgbx.deemwar.com/install.sh | shTell it your storage bucket (it asks you)
sudo pgbx setup serverRestart Postgres once (setup prints the exact command)
sudo systemctl restart postgresqlThat's it. Every database on that server is now backed up every night, and new ones within a minute. Check any time with pgbx status. Need it back? One command restores it, even onto a new server.
pgbx comes with a skill for Claude Code and Codex. Ask in plain words; the agent runs the matchingpgbx command on your server, over SSH, without a shell. Every command has asafety level: anything that pauses backups or deletes old ones is refused unless you say yes, and no command ever overwrites a live database.
pgbx status --jsonpgbx doctor --jsonpgbx db-restore --db shop --into shop_check --time 2026-10-01T23:00:00Zpgbx query "SELECT count(*) FROM orders WHERE created_at > now() - interval '1 day'"reuses the query you saved in ~/pgbx/prod/shop/memories.mdEach database gets its own memory, ~/pgbx/<connection>/<db>/memories.md andtables.md: the agent reads it first and writes to it only when you say "remember this".How memory works.
Add it with pgbx skill install (the installer offers it too).
The pgbx extension lives inside Postgres and does the backups. The pgbx CLI is the client: you, or your AI agent through the pgbx skill, use it from a laptop or CI, straight or through an adapter (SSH, AWS, GCP, Azure or your own).

Any S3 storage
AWS S3, Cloudflare R2, Hetzner, Backblaze B2, MinIO: anything that speaks S3. Your backups sit in your bucket, under your account.
Getting data back
pgbx db-restore brings a database back as a new copy, so you can check it before switching.
Server gone? It restores straight from your bucket onto a fresh one.
Tells you what's wrong
pgbx status shows every database and its last backup. pgbx doctor explains a failed backup,
or why Postgres won’t start, in plain words.
New to this? Start with install, then your first backup.
